The most reliable method what i found is to browse downloads directory and check the date of the “contrib” directory in the specific CDH version.
For example CDH 5.9 is from the October 2016 - http://archive.cloudera.com/cdh5/debian/jessie/amd64/cdh/dists/jessie-cdh5.9/
After Cloudera repackaging in 2017, this simple method does not work anymore.
